Hello and welcome to AFL, Tasmania.

The team that we were told would never ever happen has finally roared to life!

Born from over 150 years of dedication, grit and passion, on 18 March 2024 we celebrated the launch of the latest AFL club - the Tasmania Football Club - The Tasmania Devils.

The Tasmania Devils will play its first AFL game at Hobart Stadium at Macquarie Point in 2028.

The AFL men's team is expected to enter the competition in the 2028 season, while a proposed timeline for a women's team entry into the AFLW competition will be worked through shortly.

Premier Rockliff suggested games would be played in the North, the South, and the North-West to ensure this is a truly Tasmanian team.

Details of the club's training and administration base will be worked through in coming months, while a community campaign will be launched to select the brand of the new club, including name, logo, guernsey and song.

Wednesday 3 May 2023 - Tasmanian AFL team now a reality after deal signed with league boss Gillon McLachlan. Tasmania's time "has finally come", Premier Jeremy Rockliff says, after the AFL officially awarded the state the league's 19th team licence.

Wednesday 3 May 2023 - AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan is confident a deal could be reached with Warner Bros movie studio to allow the league's 19th team to be named the Tasmania Devils should that be the name settled on by the new club.
